OUTSIDE LANDS 2017

Celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2017, Outside Lands music festival returned to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park with a lineup that pulled out all the stops. Here are some illustrations of my favorite sets and artists from the weekend.

LITTLE DRAGON

This Swedish electronic pop band Little Dragon made it's way to this festival's lineup, fitting in well with the year's more alternative/indie atmosphere. However, Yukimi Nagano's smoky vocals and outlandish stage presence, along with the retro dance sounds of Erik Bodin, Håkan Wirenstrand, & Fredrik Wallin on instruments, made them one of the more eccentric performances from the weekend.

GORILLAZ

I grew up drawing Jamie Hewlett’s characters 2D, Noodle, Russell, and Murdoc at home and in school. The musical stylings of Damon Albarn & his collaborators gave me more depth and an atmosphere to venture off into the world of these animations. The Gorillaz is a perfect collaboration between visual art and music.

TIFFANY HADDISH

I took a break from the music and decided to visit the Comedy Tent for the first time. I caught this comedy group of four women called Wild Horses, but they had Tiffany Haddish as a guest in their act and she completely stole the show, easily becoming one of my favorite guests in this Outside Lands lineup. The other girls had no chance of taking the spotlight away from The Last Black Unicorn.
